✅ Wavebox Dock Icon (macOS)

The Dock Icon in Wavebox for macOS makes it quick and easy to open the app, view unread counts, and switch between profiles. Use the instructions below to show, hide, or customize the Dock Icon, as well as troubleshoot common issues.

Show or Hide the Dock Icon

By default, Wavebox appears in your Dock whenever it’s running. However, you can choose what happens when you close the app window:

  • Open Settings
    • Click the cog icon at the bottom-left of the Wavebox window to open Settings.
    • If you don’t see certain options, click Advanced at the top of Settings.
  • Find the Quit Behavior
    • In General > Appearance, look for “Main Window Quit Behavior.”
  • Select Your Preference
    • Minimize to dock: Keeps the Dock Icon visible and running when closed.
    • Hide the app to the menu bar: Removes Wavebox from the Dock when closed, but keeps a Wavebox icon in the top menu bar.

Pin the Dock Icon

You can keep Wavebox permanently in your Dock, even when it’s not running:

  • Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the Wavebox Dock Icon
  • Go to Options > Keep in Dock

This ensures Wavebox stays in your Dock as a shortcut, whether it’s open or closed.

Dock Icon Badges

Wavebox can show an unread badge count on its Dock Icon, letting you see the total notifications of all unread items, across all profiles, in Wavebox.

  • Show / Hide Dock Icon
    1. Go to Settings > General > Desktop Integration
    2. Look for Show Unread Badge
    3. Toggle ON/OFF
  • Focus Mode
    • To temporarily pause notifications and hide badges, click the bell icon at the bottom of Wavebox’s sidebar and select Enter Focus Mode.
    • While in Focus Mode, the Dock Icon badge will not update. Leave Focus Mode to restore normal badge counts.

Multiple Profiles

If you use multiple profiles (e.g., different sets of apps or accounts), each profile can appear separately in the Dock.

  • Switch Profiles via the Dock Icon
    • Right-click a Wavebox Dock Icon to see a list of open profiles.
    • Select a profile to switch to that window.

Troubleshooting

  • Dock Icon Missing
    • App Hidden to Menu Bar - If you set Main Window Quit Behavior to “Hide the app to the menu bar,” the Dock Icon disappears when you close Wavebox. Click the top-right Wavebox menu bar icon and choose “Show App.”
    • Not Running - Make sure Wavebox is actually open (double-click it in Applications or Spotlight).
  • Dock Icon Won’t Open Wavebox
    • Off-Screen or Minimised - Right-click the Dock Icon and select Show All Windows, or click “Show App” from the menu bar icon.
  • Unresponsive
    • Force Quit Wavebox (right-click > Force Quit) and relaunch.
    • Check for updates (Wavebox Menu > About Wavebox > Check for Updates).
  • Incorrect or No Unread Badge
    • Notification Permissions - On macOS go to System Settings > Notifications and ensure Wavebox is allowed to show badges.
    • Focus Mode Enabled - Turn off Wavebox Focus Mode by clicking the bell icon > Leave Focus Mode.
    • Check App Settings - In App Settings, verify that Show unread badge is on for each app you want included in the Dock’s total.
