😎 Rest Easy: How to Back Up and Restore Your Wavebox Setup.
You've carefully set up Wavebox to work just the way you want, so it’s only natural to worry about something going wrong. The good news is, Wavebox offers tools to keep your setup safe, so you’ll never lose sleep over your profiles again. Here’s a guide to Wavebox’s backup and restore options.
⚠️ Important
Each Wavebox profile must be backed up separately. Make sure to set up backup solutions for every individual profile you use.
🙋♀️ Always contact support before attempting any restore.
Backup Solutions in Wavebox
☁️ 1. Profile Sync (Best for Multiple Devices)
Profile Sync provides real-time, live backups, keeping your Wavebox setup in sync across all your computers.
- How it works: Profile Sync is automatically enabled for your default (first) profile when you set up Wavebox.
- For additional profiles: Enable sync manually by going to:
Settings > Data & Sync > [Start Sync]
- Tip: Profile Sync instantly mirrors all changes, so you always have the latest setup on every synced device.
☁️ 2. Profile Backup (Cloud)
If Profile Sync is disabled, Wavebox automatically backs up that profile to the cloud approximately every 6 hours.
- How to restore:
Restore from these backups any time by navigating to:Settings > Data & Sync > [Restore from Backup]
- Benefit: Ensures you always have a recent backup, even without real-time Sync enabled.
💾 3. Profile Backup (Local)
Wavebox also protects your data locally.
- How it works:
Every time you update Wavebox (about every 2 weeks), it saves a local backup to your computer’s hard drive. - Local backups are found in the
Library/Application/Support/WaveboxApp/Default/wavebox/snaphot/versioned
folder. Backups are normally created for the last 5 versions of Wavebox in case an update causes something to go wrong. - Guarantee:
You’ll always have a backup less than 14 days old—even if you prefer local backups.

Restoring Part of a Profile
Need to recover specific groups?
- Create a new profile as above.
- Restore your chosen backup into the new profile.
- Locate the content you wish to recover (e.g., a group).
- If you want to move a group, create a template share code for it.
- Return to your original profile and import/add the group (e.g., by pasting in the share code).
👍 Backup Best Practices
Here are some extra tips to help you keep your Wavebox setup safe:
- Manual Export to Disk:
For maximum safety, occasionally manually export your profiles to disk:Settings > Data & Sync > [Export to Disc]
This file can be used to restore your profile later if needed. - Manual Cloud Backup:
Even with sync enabled, performing a manual backup occasionally is a smart idea. Set your calendar to do this as often as you want:Settings > Data & Sync > [Backup Now]
