✅ New Tab (Start) Page

When you open a new tab in Wavebox, you’ll see a page that can be customized to match your workflow. The default page includes a gradient background and a central search box, but you can change this by setting a global custom URL, using dashboards, or assigning different pages for specific groups or spaces.

Default New Tab Page

By default, Wavebox displays a minimal page with a gradient background and a built-in search field.

  • Search engine: To change the search engine, go to Settings > General > Search.
  • Customize: In any new tab page, click ⚙ Settings top-right to change the background image/color.

Global Custom URL

To open a chosen site in any new tab (group-specific settings can overwrite this):

  1. Go to ⚙ Settings > General > Appearance > New Tab Page
  2. Check the third radio button.
  3. Type your custom URL, e.g., your company website.
  4. Close Settings and open a new tab to see your changes.

Group Custom URL

To show a different site in new tab pages for a group (this overrides all other settings):

  1. Right-click the Group icon in the webdock and select ⚙Settings.
  2. Enter your New Tab URL under Behaviour.
  3. Click Done to save.

Dashboards

Dashboards are customizable pages with widgets and shortcuts. You can use a dashboard as your new tab page. They work similarly to extensions like Start.me. Learn how to create dashboards here.

  1. Go to ⚙ Settings > General > Appearance > New Tab Page
  2. Check the second radio button.
  3. Click the dropdown menu and select a dashboard from the list.
  4. Close Settings and open a new tab to see your changes.

Space-Specific Dashboard - you can specify a dashboard to show in a particular space.

  1. Open a dashboard’s menu top-left.
  2. Click next to the dashboard name and pick Use as your New Tab Page.
  3. Assign the dashboard to your chosen Space (e.g. “Work” or “Personal”).

Note: You may need to enable Advanced Dashboard Management in the dashboard’s settings if you don’t see the (burger) icon on the top-left.

Troubleshooting

  • Your custom page isn’t showing: Make sure no Group-specific setting overrides the global or Space configuration.
  • Wrong search engine: Go to Settings > General Tab > Search to update the default engine.
  • Return to default: Clear or remove the custom URL or dashboard assignment in Settings or Dashboard management.
