Wavebox gives you built-in tools to manage audio and video across your browser tabs — whether you're listening to music, watching a video, or casting content to another screen.

🎧 Control Audio and Video Playback in Tabs

You can easily manage media playing in any tab without needing to jump back and forth.

To control audio or video playback in Wavebox:

  • In any tab, start playing media, like music on Spotify or video on YouTube.
  • To manage playback, click the 🎵 media control icon in the toolbar top-right.
  • From there, you can stop, pause, skip, or return to the tab that’s playing the media.
Tip: Media keeps playing even if you move to another tab or workspace.

How do you know where audio is being played?

  • When media is being played, Wavebox will overlay a 🔊 play/volume icon on the space/group/app icon (or both).

Quickly Mute Audio for an App or Tab

  • Right-click on the app icon and select 'Mute app audio'. The app will stay muted until you select Right-Click > Unmute.
  • Right-click on the tab icon and select 'Mute site'. The website will stay muted until you select Right-Click > Unmute Site.

📺 Watch Videos Using Picture-in-Picture (PiP) Mode

Wavebox supports picture-in-picture, letting you pop out a video into a smaller, floating window that stays on top of other tabs. Perfect for multitasking!

To use picture-in-picture:

  • Visit any site that supports video playback.
  • Start playing a video.
  • Right-click (or long-press) on the video and choose “Picture-in-Picture” if it’s available.

🔧 To manage automatic Picture-in-Picture permissions:

  1. In Wavebox, go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Site Settings.
  3. Under the Permissions section, choose Additional Permissions > Automatic Picture-in-Picture.
  4. Set your preferred behavior:
    • Allow sites to use automatic PiP
    • Block sites from using automatic PiP
Note: Picture-in-picture is turned off by default in private (Incognito) windows.

Troublehooting

Spotify or similar not working:

  • Open wavebox://components in a new tab
  • Search for "Widevine Content Decryption Module" and press "Check for update."
  • Completely restart Wavebox & try again.
