How ChatGPT (OpenAI) Tokens and Brainbox Tokens Work.
Wavebox users have two great ways to access ChatGPT and other AI features: directly through the ChatGPT website or via Brainbox, Wavebox’s own built-in AI panel. This article explains how token usage works in both cases, highlights the free monthly Brainbox tokens available for everyone, and helps you make the most of AI within Wavebox.
🍪 Remember - you can use Spaces to stay signed-in to more than one OpenAI account, e.g for multiple businesses, or clients. Spaces all your tokens and conversations separate.
1. Using ChatGPT Directly in Wavebox
- You can open chat.openai.com in a Wavebox tab just like you would in any regular browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge).
- Here, you sign in with your personal or work account to use ChatGPT.
- Important: This usage is between you and OpenAI directly. Wavebox does not have access to your conversations or account and does not manage any tokens here.
2. Using Brainbox (Wavebox’s Built-in AI Panel)
- Brainbox is Wavebox’s own AI assistant, built into the app. In the Brainbox panel, you can choose from different Large Language Models (LLMs), including ChatGPT.
- Free Monthly Tokens: Every user gets 250,000 free tokens per month to use with Brainbox. Tokens are the units that determine how much you can interact with AI (similar to credits).
- If You Need More: If you use up your 250k free tokens, you can connect your own OpenAI API key to Brainbox—this lets you keep using the AI panel by using your own OpenAI (ChatGPT) credits.
- Reset Every Month: The 250k free tokens reset at the start of each month.
How It All Fits Together
- You can always use your own ChatGPT account in a browser tab—unlimited as per your ChatGPT subscription.
- Brainbox offers 250k free tokens each month for AI-assisted features within the Wavebox environment.
- Once you run out of those, you can switch to your own OpenAI (ChatGPT) API key.
Benefit:
You get a generous monthly allowance of AI usage within Wavebox for free, and only need your own OpenAI credits if you are a heavy user.
