✅ Global Search

Wavebox’s Global Search helps you find anything in Wavebox at lightning speed. This includes apps in the webdock, open tabs, bookmarks, history, Smart Notes, and more. Use it to quickly jump between spaces and groups, or perform multi-account searches in Gmail and Google Drive.

There are two main ways to launch Global Search:

  • Click the Search icon in the top-right corner of Wavebox.
  • Use the keyboard shortcut. By default, it’s:
    • Windows/Linux: <kbd>Alt</kbd> + <kbd>S</kbd>
    • macOS: <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>S</kbd>

Search and Navigate

  • Start typing in the search field. Results update instantly.
  • Click a result to open it, or use the arrow keys and press <kbd>Enter</kbd>.
  • Results are grouped by category:
    • Groups
    • Apps
    • Open Tabs
    • Widgets
    • Smart Notes
    • Saved items
    • Dashboards
    • Bookmarks
    • History
    • Web Searches
    • Desktop Web Apps
  • Right-click on the category strip to reorder the categories by dragging them up and down in the list.

App Switcher

  • Below the search field are icons for your 6 recently used apps.
  • Select any item to jump right back to it.

Browse Recent Tabs

  • Under the app switcher, you’ll also see a list of your open tabs (up to 100).
  • Select any item to jump to it.
  • Click the X to close the tab.

Multi-Account Searches

With multiple Google accounts, Wavebox can run a single search across all connected Gmail inboxes or Google Drives. After opening Global Search and typing a keyword:

  • Start typing in the search field.
  • Click the Gmail icon to search all your Gmail accounts.
  • Click the Drive icon to search all your Drives.

Wavebox will open search results in separate tabs for each account.

Tips & Tricks

  • Customize the Shortcut: Go to Settings > General > Keyboard Shortcuts and find “Open WB Quick Switch” to change the key combo.
  • Dashboard Widget: You can add the Global Search widget to a dashboard/new tab page for quick access without using the toolbar icon.
  • Reorder Categories: Right-click the category strip in the results panel to drag them into a new order.

Troubleshooting

  • Shortcut Not Working: Confirm you’re using the correct keys for your OS. If you changed the shortcut, check it under Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts.
  • Can’t Find an Item: Global Search only indexes titles, URLs, and metadata in Wavebox. Use the Gmail/Drive icons for a direct search for email or file content.
  • Performance Issues: Make sure Wavebox is up to date. If Global Search seems slow, restart Wavebox or temporarily disable any conflicting extensions.

That’s it! Give Global Search a try to quickly find your apps, tabs, and more.
