✅ Dividers

Dividers help you separate groups in the webdock and apps in the group tabstrip. Use them to keep your workspace organized, categorize apps, and quickly show/hide groups to reduce distractions (wedbock only).

Adding a Divider: Webdock

  • Right-click an existing group in the webdock.
  • Select Add Divider.
  • Type a name into the Divider Label text field

The new horizontal divider appears above the group you clicked on.

Adding a Divider: Group Tabstrip

  • Right-click an app in the tabstrip.
  • Select Add Divider.

The new vertical divider appears to the left of the app you clicked on.

Renaming a Divider: Webdock Only

  • Right-click the divider and select the divider label field.
  • Edit the name, or leave it blank for a simple line.
  • Press Enter to confirm.

Removing a Divider: Webdock and Tabstrip

  • Right-click the divider.
  • Select Remove Divider.

Removing a divider doesn't delete your groups or apps—it just removes the dividing line.

Collapsing & Expanding: Webdock Only

  • Click on a divider to collapse all groups beneath it.
  • Click again to expand.

This is handy for hiding infrequently used apps without removing them.

Tip: To collapse or expand all dividers at once, hold Shift and click the Webdock Mode button in the title bar.

Reordering Dividers & Groups

  • Drag and drop dividers up or down.
  • Drag groups to place them under or above a divider.

Dividers don’t contain groups; they only separate them visually.

Troubleshooting

  • Divider disappears: You may have clicked it, causing it to collapse. Click again to expand.
  • Groups missing: If a divider is collapsed, the groups beneath it are hidden—click the divider to reveal them.
  • Drag not working: Wavebox prevents placing two dividers directly next to each other without a group between them. Ensure there’s at least one group under every divider.

Dividers: In-Depth

Wavebox's productivity browser includes a feature called Dividers for the organizing and saving space in the webdock and group tabstrip.

Webdock (Constenita) - Horizontal lines you can insert among your group icons to label and separate them into sections.

Group tabstrip - Smaller, vertical lines you can insert between apps in the tabstrip. Not collapsable.

Think of them like the plastic divider bars at a supermarket checkout – they visually separate items but don't hold anything themselves. In Wavebox, this means a divider is not a folder or container; it’s purely a visual separator and has no effect on your accounts or cookie profiles. The main purpose of dividers is to tidy up your sidebar and even allow you to collapse groups under them, giving you more space and helping you stay focused by hiding those groups until needed.

Why use dividers? Here are a few benefits:

  • Organize your sidebar: Label and section your groups (e.g. separate Work and Personal sets of apps) for easier navigation.
  • Save space: Collapse entire sections of the sidebar when you're not using them, to free up screen space.
  • Reduce distractions: Hide less-important groups under a collapsed divider so they stay out of sight until needed.

Whether you're a new Wavebox user or an experienced pro with dozens of apps, dividers can help keep your tab strip (webdock) organized. The guide below covers basic steps to create and manage dividers, as well as advanced tips and troubleshooting common issues.

Adding a Divider to the Tab Strip

Creating a new divider is quick and easy. Follow these steps to add a divider in your Wavebox sidebar/tab strip:

  1. Right-click on a Group icon in the sidebar (webdock) where you want to insert a divider. This opens a context menu on that group.
  2. Select Add Divider from the context menuwavebox.io. A new divider line will appear above the group you clicked on. For example, if you right-clicked the "Work Email" group and added a divider, the divider will be placed just above that group in the sidebar.
  3. The new divider is created with no label by default (just a horizontal line). You can leave it blank or give it a name (see next section).

After Step 2, you should see a divider line inserted into your sidebar. You can drag this divider up or down to adjust its position if needed (more on reordering below). If you added the divider at the wrong spot, simply drag it to the correct position or remove it and add a new one in the desired location. Remember that a divider is only a visual separator – no apps or groups are inside it.

Naming or Renaming a Divider

By default, a new divider has no label, but you can customize the divider's name to categorize sections of your sidebar (for example, "📂 Projects" or "🏠 Personal"). Naming your dividers is optional, but it helps to identify collapsed sections at a glance. To name or rename a divider:

  1. Right-click on the divider line that you want to name. A small context menu or edit popup will appear.
  2. Click on the Divider Label text box (in the menu) and type the name you want for that section. For example, you might name it "Client A" to group all that client's apps together.
  3. Press Enter or click outside the text box to save the name. The divider's label will now be visible on the sidebar (especially in list or expanded sidebar view, where text is shown).

Tip: You can rename a divider at any time using the same steps. If you prefer an unlabelled divider (just a line), you can also leave the label blank. An unlabelled divider works fine and can be useful for a clean look or for "archiving" groups without drawing attention.

Removing a Divider

If you no longer need a particular divider, you can remove it without affecting any of your apps or groups. Removing a divider will simply delete the divider line; it will not delete or remove any groups or apps that were underneath it

To remove a divider:

  1. Right-click on the divider you want to remove.
  2. Select Remove Divider from the context menu.
  3. The divider line will disappear, and any groups that were below that divider will now just appear under the previous divider (or at the top, if there is no other divider above).

(No confirmation dialog is required; the divider is removed immediately.) Once removed, your groups will simply stack together. If needed, you can always add a new divider again later.

Note: Removing a divider only removes the dividing line. All the app groups that were organized under that divider remain intact in the sidebar

For example, if you had groups under "Projects" and you remove the "Projects" divider, those groups will still be in your sidebar (they'll just merge into the next section up).

Using Dividers: Collapsing and Expanding Sections

One powerful feature of dividers is the ability to collapse and expand sections of your sidebar. When you click on a divider, Wavebox will collapse all the groups between that divider and the next divider (or until the end of the sidebar) into the divider itself. This means those groups' icons will be hidden from view, giving you more vertical space. Click the divider again to expand it, and the groups beneath it will reappear.

  • Collapsing a divider is great for hiding a set of apps you don't need to see all the time (e.g. archive or rarely used groups) without removing themwavebox.io. This helps you stay focused by temporarily tucking away distracting icons.
  • You can tell a divider is collapsed if the group icons under it are no longer visible. The divider line (often accompanied by its label, if named) will remain, and there may be an indicator (such as an arrow or a count of hidden items) showing the section is collapsed. Clicking the divider will expand it again, revealing the icons.
  • You can collapse/expand each divider independently. Wavebox remembers the state, so a collapsed section stays collapsed until you click the divider again to open it.

For advanced users, Wavebox also provides a shortcut to manage all dividers at once. Tip: To quickly expand or collapse all divider sections in your sidebar simultaneously, hold Shift and click the Webdock mode toggle button in the titlebar

This shortcut will expand every collapsed divider (or collapse all expanded ones) in one go. It’s a handy way to open everything up or hide all sections with one click.

Organizing and Reordering Dividers and Groups

Once you have multiple dividers and groups, you may want to rearrange them. You can drag and drop dividers up or down in the sidebar to change the order of your sections, just as you can drag group icons to reorder them. This way, you can organize your sidebar hierarchy in a way that makes sense (for example, move an 'Urgent' divider to the top, or group all personal sections below work sections).

However, keep in mind a few important points about how dividers behave when moving them:

  • Dividers are not folders. When you move a divider, only the divider line moves – the groups that were beneath it do not move with it. In other words, a divider doesn't "carry" its groups along (since it isn't actually a container for those groups). If you drag a divider above or below another group, you're simply changing where the dividing line is, not moving any apps.
  • If you want to move groups into a different section, you should drag the group icons themselves to the desired position (above or below the relevant divider). The divider will then naturally separate whatever groups end up below it from those above it.

Advanced reorganization tips

If you have a lot of groups and dividers and need to completely reorganize them, it might be easiest to remove and re-add dividers as you restructure. For example, imagine you want to re-categorize all your groups from scratch. You can do the following:

  1. Expand all dividers so that all group icons are visible (make sure no section is collapsed).
  2. Remove all existing dividers by right-clicking each divider and choosing Remove Divider. This will leave you with a flat list of all group icons.
  3. Rearrange your groups by dragging the group icons into the new order or categories you want. For instance, put all work-related groups together, all personal together, etc.
  4. Add new dividers to create your new sections. Click on a group and select Add Divider to insert a divider above it, for each place you want a separation. Then label the dividers as needed (e.g. "Work", "Personal", "Archives").

This method is recommended for a big overhaul because it ensures groups don’t get "stuck" under old dividers in unintended ways. Remember, since dividers don't hold groups, removing them won't remove any groups, it just clears the way for you to start fresh. After reorganizing, you'll have a tidy webdock with sections exactly where you want them.

Additional Tips and Advanced Usage

  • Use dividers as section headers: Giving a divider a label effectively creates a header in your sidebar. For example, you might have one divider labeled "👔 Work" and another labeled "🏠 Personal" to clearly separate work-related apps from personal ones. This is purely for your visual benefit and makes navigation easier.
  • Hide or archive groups with blank dividers: You don’t have to name every divider. If you leave a divider’s label blank, it will appear as just a subtle line. You can use an unlabeled divider at the bottom of your sidebar to archive older or infrequently used groups – collapse that divider to hide those groups out of the way, without any label clutter.
  • Dividers work in all layouts: Wavebox offers different webdock (sidebar) layouts such as Spaces, Explorer, and List views. Dividers are supported in all of these layouts. This means if you switch to the List view (where group names are shown alongside icons) or use Spaces (multiple sidebar configurations for different workflows), your dividers will still be there to help organize your groups. In list view, the divider’s label will be visible as a heading; in icon-only view, you might just see a line or tooltip for the divider.
  • Purely visual separation: Dividers do not create any new containers or affect how your accounts/apps function. They don't impact cookie profiles or sign-ins – they're for navigation and organization only. Knowing this, you can confidently add or remove dividers without worrying about messing up any app settings.
  • Keyboard shortcut for collapse/expand: In addition to the Shift+click trick mentioned earlier, you can also quickly expand a collapsed section by clicking on the divider name in the Navigator panel (if you're using Wavebox's Navigator feature), as it will jump to that section. (This is a general navigation tip; the Navigator shows an overview of your sidebar.)

Troubleshooting Common Divider Issues

Using dividers in Wavebox is usually straightforward, but here are some common issues and questions that might arise, along with their solutions:

  • Divider won't stay where I drag it (jumps back): If you try to move a divider and it just snaps back to its original position, it's likely because of the placement rules for dividers. Every divider must have at least one group beneath it. You cannot place two dividers directly next to each other with no group in between, and you cannot have a divider at the very bottom of the sidebar with no group under it. If a move would break those rules, Wavebox prevents it (causing the divider to bounce back). Solution: Make sure you always leave at least one group icon below each divider. For example, you can drag a group out from under a divider or add a new group below if needed, then try moving the divider again.
  • 'Add Divider' option is missing: To add a divider, right-click on an existing group icon or on an empty area in the webdock. If you right-click on an existing divider, you may not see the Add Divider option. If you have no groups at all, create a group first (since dividers live between groups).
  • My groups disappeared after adding a divider: Likely, the divider was clicked and the section collapsed, hiding those group icons. The groups are still there, just tucked under the divider. Simply click the divider line to expand it and your groups will reappear. Collapsing a divider never deletes anything – it only hides the section until you need it.
  • Removing a divider deleted my section: Removing a divider can make it seem like a section "disappeared," but in reality the groups from that section are now just merged into the list with other groups. Check your sidebar for the app icons that were under the removed divider – they should still be present (likely now under another divider or in the main list). You can always re-add a divider and label it again to re-create the section if needed. Remember, Wavebox does not delete those groups when a divider is removed.

If you run into any other issues with dividers not covered here, consider the following troubleshooting steps: ensure you're running the latest version of Wavebox (as updates may fix divider-related bugs), and visit the Wavebox Knowledge Base or Support pages for additional help. Dividers are a simple feature, but understanding their behavior (they must attach to a group, they collapse/expand sections, etc.) will resolve most problems.
